East Addition
First Floor Now that the building has been climate-controlled, painting has started. Cabinets have been installed in the work areas. Ceiling grid work is in place, but the ceiling acoustical tiles will not be put up until final installation of the telephone and data cabling lines has been completed. Flooring preparation is ongoing with installation beginning in early February. Elevators will be completed by mid-March.
The Radiology department is in the process of developing plans for relocation of all imaging equipment to the first floor of the east addition. During the moving phase there will be no interruption in existing patient services.
Second Floor Drywall has been completed and the walls are being prepared for painting. Ceramic tiling work is being done in patient bathrooms, and cabling for data and telephone lines is in process. Ceiling grid layout has begun, and cabinet and casework deliveries are expected within the next couple of weeks.
North Addition First floor framing for Transcare has been completed. Electrical and plumbing distribution is well underway with drywall to follow. Tie-ins to the north addition on both the first and second floor are scheduled for mid-February. In March, expect to see internal work to straighten out the Mingus corridor, providing direct access from the Mingus unit to the new East addition.
HBE will officially “turn over” the east addition to VVMC in May 2008 with the north addition to follow shortly thereafter.
Flooring Update Flooring replacement in the public corridors is at 95 percent completion. The remainder consists of adding baseboard (currently on back order) to areas of the second floor and replacing flooring in the Outpatient lobby. The majority of this work will be scheduled for weekends so as not to disturb patient and visitor flow.
You may have noticed some areas on the first and second floor that are still exposed down to the bare concrete. These are areas to be included in the tie-ins scheduled for March that will connect the east and north additions to the main hospital building.
Flooring replacement also is being considered for ICU patient rooms, Senior Lifestyles BHU patient restrooms and several other miscellaneous areas.
Because of potential damage to new flooring, carpet will remain in the hallway outside Perinatal Services and Cardiology Services until the renovation phase of construction has been completed in February 2009.
As we finalize interior improvements such as flooring, furniture and artwork, we also will be focusing on painting and other general appearance improvements.
