All sidewalk and vehicle entry work on Willard Street and the north, middle and south drives has been completed.
East Addition The erection of the four-story steel structure has been accomplished. Crew members are completing some final work items including installation of screen walls on the roof to conceal the air handlers, finishing of the steel decking on each floor, and placement of stairwells.
Six inches of concrete have been poured on the first, second and third floors. The fourth floor pour will begin the first of July. Once the concrete pouring has been completed, application of a special fire protectant will take place.
This is a fire code required process that protects the steel framework and the integrity of the steel from high temperatures in event of catastrophic fire. Exterior framing and sheeting has begun, and interior utility rough-ins have been started on the first and second floors.
North Addition Just as steel erection has finished on the east addition, it has increased on the two-level north addition with the framework at 50 percent completion. This includes shell space for the eight-bed observation unit which will be located adjacent to the Emergency department.
This board approved alternate will provide additional capacity for future increased volume in the E.D. By September, both the east and north additions will be “dried-in,” meaning they will be finished, weatherproof buildings.
Both will be turned over to VVMC in May 2008.
