Building Project Update - July 2008

07/10/08

East Addition
Second Floor (Yavapai Med/Surg Unit): The final owner (VVMC) punch list review is scheduled for July 10 with turnover of the second floor to VVMC scheduled for July 18. Once VVMC has taken possession of this Med/Surg unit, many owner responsibilities will commence including general cleaning, stripping and application of floor finish, and installation of wall items. Shower and privacy curtains will be hung, window treatments will be installed, and final validation of the nurse call system will be completed. Completion time for these projects is estimated at two to three weeks, after which the unit will be ready for furniture and medical equipment, and ultimately, Department of Health Services (DHS) licensing, and patients.

First Floor
The Medical Imaging department space is at 85 percent completion. Current activities are focused on preparing the suites for each specific piece of equipment. Most of this work is being contracted by the equipment vendors and manufacturers. You may have noticed a large opening in the east end of the four-story addition. This is to accommodate the delivery of the MRI July 7. Associated work in this area will be a priority until the unit is energized.

The move of current imaging equipment has been organized in phases to ensure patient safety, and the continuation of Medical Imaging services. This includes renting a mobile CT unit which is similar to our existing unit so our technicians are operationally familiar with it. This supports patient care during the three-week period to remove, relocate, reinstall, and recalibrate the existing 64-slice CT. The cost of the rental unit is $48,000 for the first month, and $15,000 per week after that. Expediting the CT relocation to avoid additional charges is a must. This is just one example of how critical planning is in the coordination of the move.

VVMC has requested the licensing survey from DHS to be conducted Aug. 26, 27, or 28. Upon receiving a positive initial survey, the Medical Imaging department may start providing services to patients in the new location. At that time, approximately 80 percent of the total imaging equipment will be installed and ready for use. The remaining 20 percent will stay in the existing department to support patient use.

Finally, all equipment calibrations will take place, and required protective shielding will be verified by a physicist. These approvals will determine final patient occupancy and opening date for the second floor.

North Addition
The first floor, 20-bed Telemetry unit floor installation is in process along with paint and finish work, ceiling grid, and tile work. Cabinetry has been completed with final installation of electrical and plumbing fixtures.

Interior
The Mingus corridor has been reopened. During the week of July 6, work will be focused on the second floor connection of the north tower, with the first floor connection to follow in approximately three weeks.
