Building Project Update July 2009

East Addition

Fourth floor OB Unit
HBE and VVMC completed a successful walk-through on June 22 to identify items that need to be addressed or corrected prior to VVMC taking ownership.

VVMC is in the process of obtaining building occupancy which includes final approval from the city of Cottonwood for local jurisdiction, as well as DHS licensure from the state.

Internal

Emergency department
Work continues on Phase 4, which includes conversion of the former waiting and registration areas to a new EMS and ambulance entry, three new trauma bays, a patient decontamination shower and EMS support area. Work in this area is on schedule for completion in early August.

With the completion of Phase 4, work on the fifth and final phase of the ED renovation will begin. Phase 5 converts the existing trauma area into three behavioral needs rooms, three private rooms, and a staff support area which includes additional staff lockers, a kitchenette and equipment storage space. Project completion is scheduled for late October. 
 
Second floor
Behind the temporary construction walls in the second floor corridor and throughout the Inpatient lobby, work continues for the new Cardiology Services area. The second floor work also includes a Lab draw station area, Reception area, Registration area, Gift Shop, and new finishes for the lobby.

The Inpatient Services entrance and lobby were closed on Tuesday, July 7, to accommodate renovation work, and will remain closed until approximately the first week of August.

Courtyard Plaza
Work is progressing for the new Education Center scheduled for completion in September. Education staff will be relocating from the second floor of the Medical Office Building to the Clemenceau Courtyard to provide them easy access to the new center. Education’s current space then will be used for the new family home visiting program.

Latest news
Through support of the Medical Staff, and approval by the Board of Directors and Medical Executive Committee, there will be a new pediatric observation unit created in the shell space adjacent to the current Emergency department. This will consist of a separate entry, two private rooms, four individual patient bays, a family lounge, and nurse and support areas. This unit will provide observation care for pediatric patients for periods up to 23.5 hours.
