Building Project Update - March 2008

03/05/08

East Addition
Finish work continues on the first and second floors. Within the next 30 days, installation of millwork, flooring, ceramic tile work, and paint finishing will be completed. As work by HBE (the hospital design and build company) winds down, VVMC’s responsibilities will ramp up. This includes phone, data and nurse-call cabling, installation of patient room head-wall units, and fit-up of each room.

The Radiology department planning group has been meeting on a biweekly basis to develop strategies for relocation of all imaging equipment to the first floor of the east addition, which will be a very detailed process. During the moving phase there will be no interruption to existing patient services.

Tie-ins (connections from the new addition) to the existing hospital building will take place over the next few weeks. Site work around the addition also is underway, including sidewalk and concrete work, and asphalt preparation.

North Addition
All first floor framing and electrical and plumbing distribution is completed. Sheet rock is being hung with wall finish to follow. Tie-ins to the north addition will begin in April, including realignment of the corridor to the Mingus unit.

Flooring
Flooring replacement is 50 percent completed in ICU patient rooms. Comments have been extremely positive about the simulated wood flooring in these areas.

Flooring replacement is nearly completed in the Senior Lifestyles Behavioral Health Unit. A special rubber flooring was selected for these areas due to cohesiveness when wet.
