East Addition
Workers on the fourth floor OB/Perinatal Services department project continue to make great progress. Sheet rock, electrical work, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), and ceramic tiling in the restrooms and showers is at 95 percent completion. Wall preparation is 65 percent completed, and finish and painting is 25 percent done. Ceiling grid is being installed, and is at 35 percent completion. Counter tops, which are a solid surface Corian material with integral sinks, have been delivered. These are custom crafted in a seamless union of counter and sink. The advantage is they can be more easily cleaned and disinfected, with no seams or joints to be seen.
Internal
Work has been completed on Phase 3A of the project which opened the new corridor from the north exterior into the building. The corridor will serve as an interim EMS entry into the ED, and also will be used by Materials Management, Plant Operations, EVS and those employees parking on the north side of the campus. This space includes six new rapid treatment rooms and key support space. State DHS architectural approval was received March 6, and this area was turned over to VVMC March 9 for fit out. This includes placement of computers, telephones, Pyxis medication dispensing units in nursing work areas, and common items such as soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, glove dispensers and other wall-hung equipment. Prior to utilizing the space for patient care, the entire Emergency department staff was trained on use of a new Hill-Rom Nurse Call system.
Phase 3B, which includes the new ED canopy; patient walk-in entry; and waiting, reception and triage areas; is scheduled for completion May 15 with an opening date of May 19. This will mark a significant milestone for the ED project and the ED’s enhanced ability to serve our current and future patients.
Phase 4 converts the existing waiting room and reception area into a new EMS ambulance entry, and three new trauma bays. Phase 5 converts the existing trauma area into three behavioral health holding rooms, and a staff support area which includes a kitchen, locker and equipment storage space.
Second floor Continuing through August, the former Transcare unit will be the temporary home to Cardiology Services while construction takes place in the former Cardiology Services area. When construction is complete, this area will accommodate Cardiology Services, new Patient Registration, a new Gift Shop and a new outpatient Lab draw suite with four stations.
On March 23, the Gift Shop relocated to the former Linen Supply Room next to the Chapel. This allows for renovations to a new main entry lobby and the new Gift Shop, scheduled for completion in August.
Temporary construction walls are being erected in the second floor corridor and throughout the Inpatient lobby. These walls are necessary to control dust and debris, and to enforce infection control standards. The Inpatient Services entrance and lobby still are accessible for the time being; however, as renovations progress, it will become necessary to close that area.
In the Courtyard Plaza (where Human Resources is located), the west building has been identified as the future NAH Education Center for the VVMC Campus. The inside of the building will be renovated to develop five conference rooms for future use, with completion scheduled for August.
