East Addition
Work activities on the fourth floor OB unit are nearing completion. Flooring, painting and final finishes are scheduled for June 5. Air flow testing and balancing work is underway; each room must meet specific guidelines prior to city and state approval for occupancy.
With the HBE’s subcontractor work winding down, owner (VVMC) activities are starting to take place. Some of these include door control and installation of both unit and infant security with video monitoring capabilities, a new Hill-Rom nurse call system, and patient monitoring capabilities for mothers and infants.
The Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS) architectural survey is scheduled for the week of June 22, with architectural licensure and approval to follow. An additional state DHS licensure survey will be done in the new operating room and C-section suite of the new OB unit (as is the case when a new service is added).
An OB open house is scheduled for early August. The OB unit should be fully functional for patient occupancy in mid-August.
Internal
On Tuesday, May 19, the expanded Emergency department began use of a new outside canopy; patient walk-in entry; and the new, larger reception, triage, and waiting areas. There also is a new Medical Imaging suite located within the ED that soon will be operational, allowing for faster, more convenient X-ray and other diagnostic testing. This marks a significant milestone for VVMC’s ability to serve current and future patients. The Emergency department is expanding from 12 patient care areas to 21 – nearly doubling in size.
On May 26, work began on Phase 4 with the erection of barrier walls for dust protection. Phase 4 includes conversion of the former waiting and registration areas to a new EMS and ambulance entry, three new trauma bays, a patient decontamination shower and EMS support area. Work in this area is scheduled for completion in early August.
Second Floor
Behind the temporary construction walls in the second floor corridor and throughout the Inpatient lobby, work is progressing for the new Cardiology Services area. Wall and partition framing is at 95 percent completion; mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins are 90 percent completed, and sheet rock work is 60 percent finished.
Some of the work in this area over the next four weeks will require contractors to access sections below the floor level which will affect specific areas of Surgical Services. Plans are in process for this work, and will meet strict guidelines for approval by Infection Control and Surgical Services in order to maintain patient safety and normal work flow. The second floor work is scheduled to be completed by early October.
Courtyard Plaza
In the Courtyard Plaza (where Human Resources is located), the west building has been identified as the future NAH Education Center for the VVMC Campus. Work is under way to renovate the inside of the building to develop conference rooms for classroom space and future educational initiatives. Anticipated completion is scheduled for September.
Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona (HVCNA)
The Cottonwood office of the HVCNA (formerly known as Verde Valley Heart), located in the Medical Plaza, is in the development phase for expanding and renovating the suite to accommodate additional cardiologists, increase waiting room capacity and enhance the registration area. The HVCNA offers a comprehensive line of cardiovascular services including diagnostic, interventional, and traditional and minimally invasive surgical treatment options, and a cardiac rehabilitation program. The HVCNA includes cardiovascular services provided at both VVMC and FMC.
