With 120 workers on site, the project is progressing quickly. Subcontractors involved with the project range from as far away as Idaho, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Texas. East Addition Finishes on the exterior of the building, including painting and trim, on three of the four sides have been completed. Scaffolding has been removed on the north elevation revealing the final exterior look.
Block work on the stair tower is 80 percent complete. In this area, blocking material is being used up to 70 feet, necessitating closure of the outside sidewalk around the administrative wing for safety purposes. The blocking is scheduled for completion by the weekend.
A 130-foot crane was used to set heaters, air conditioning and ventilation units on the east and north rooftops. The 150-hp boilers, a 625-ton chiller, and miscellaneous mechanical equipment have been positioned in the new mechanical room.

In months to come, as the project progresses, you can expect to see more work being performed inside the existing VVMC structure. All precautions will be made to ensure infection control standards are maintained. This will include frequent rounding by Infection Control Practitioner Karen Smith and representatives of HBE, general contractor.
The patient headboard units and nurse call systems for the new private patient rooms have been ordered. Key in the selection process was standardization. Evidence-based design has proven that standardization of the patient environment improves patient safety and outcomes. When caregivers go from room to room, and each is laid out similar with use of the same equipment, it allows attention of the caregiver to be focused on the patient and care giving, leading to improved patient safety.
What’s happening inside VVMC New carpeting will be installed in Conference Rooms A, B and C October 15, 16 and 17. All previously scheduled meetings in the conference rooms for those three days have been relocated to accommodate this schedule.
Carpet Replacement The long-awaited flooring replacement for public corridors and nursing units will begin soon! Two contractors have been chosen, and materials are on order. A decision was made to hire two contractors and installation teams to work on the project at the same time. This will reduce the duration of the project and expedite the completion date. More details about installation phasing will follow in future updates.
