Building Project Update December 2008

12/18/08

East Addition

Fourth floor: Work on the fourth floor OB/Perinatal Services department progresses. All room partitions are standing, and sheet rock installation is at 15 percent completion. Door frames, heating and cooling ducts, and mechanical and sprinkler systems are being installed. Electrical distribution is 75 percent finished. Construction completion is scheduled for the end of
July 2009.

As you may recall, workers for the project have sole access to the east stairwell, and one of the new service elevators has been designated for construction use. Two fourth floor windows on the south side of the east addition have been removed in order for heavy materials and supplies to be accessed by extension lift. During delivery, safety precautions are being followed which include roping off the immediate area.

Internal
Emergency Department:  In the first floor space formerly occupied by Medical Imaging, workers have been painting doors and walls. The Emergency department has been divided into five distinct phases and several sub-phases. Currently, Phase 3A is in progress which includes a new suite of six rapid treatment rooms, new triage rooms and a support area, which includes a new corridor from the north exterior into the building. This corridor will provide a direct route for visitors from the ED waiting area into VVMC, and also will be used by Materials Management, Plant Operations, EVS and those employees parking on the north side of the campus. The corridor will be available for use in February.

Phases 3B and 3C include the new ED walk-in canopy, waiting room and reception area, which are scheduled for completion and use in March. Phase 4 converts the existing waiting room and reception area into a new EMS and ambulance entry and three new trauma bays. Phase 5 converts the existing trauma area into three behavioral health holding rooms, and a staff support area, including kitchen, locker and equipment storage space.

Restrooms:  Remodeling of the men’s and women’s restrooms on the first floor near the Café is in progress to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and bring the finishes up to date. Completion is scheduled for the first week in January.

Parking:  Campus parking has been an ongoing issue since the start of construction. Now that the outside work is completed, a parking committee has been formed to address several priorities. These include pedestrian safety, vehicle speed control, designated parking locations, lot identification, vehicle sticker requirements and monitoring enforcement. Rollout of the new program is scheduled for early February. In the meantime, we appreciate your cooperation in adhering to VVMC policy and observing common courtesy.
