NAHospice celebrates 25 years

Nov. 5, 2009

Northern Arizona Hospice celebrates 25th Year Anniversary

In conjunction with November’s National Hospice Month, Northern Arizona Hospice proudly celebrates 25 years of providing compassionate end-of-life-care to the terminally ill in the greater Verde Valley area.

NAHospice will be hosting two afternoon information booths in the new main entrance lobby of Verde Valley Medical Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 1-3 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to meet the staff and have questions about compassionate and professional hospice care answered. You also may call 928 639-6676 for more information, or to schedule a free hospice or palliative consultation.

NAHospice began serving our community in 1984 with their first nurse, Eileen Scott, RN, CHPN. “Scottie,” now the Clinical Coordinator, remembers explaining hospice care to families when the concept was still very new. She found patients and families open to the idea of dying comfortably at home in the loving care of their family rather than in a hospital environment with unknown staff.

Scott has worked tirelessly to grow a staff of professionals who honor the philosophy of hospice and palliative care. Today a dedicated team consisting of the medical director, registered nurses, certified home health aides, licensed clinical social workers, a legion of specially-trained volunteers, Hospice chaplains, and other adjunctive staff, serve the community. These professionals have more than 110 combined years of hospice experience, averaging 11 years per person! All staff members have earned certifications or licenses beyond the basic hospice licensing requirements and 90 percent of the staff have advanced certification in their fields in Hospice and Palliative Care.

Plan to come and meet these dedicated individuals at VVMC in November. If you are unable to visit, be sure see the updated Northern Arizona Hospice website at NAHealth.com >Our Services >Northern Arizona Hospice.
