VVMC announces new medical director position

Samuel M. Butman, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., interventional cardiologist at Verde Valley Medical Center, recently accepted the additional role of medical director of Clinical Research Activities. In this new position, Dr. Butman will be responsible for seeking and conducting funded research opportunities, supporting the research activities of other VVMC Medical Staff members, and acquiring or continuing new investigational protocols. He also will develop and implement educational programs related to research for VVMC medical and facility staff in association with directors of clinical areas. Dr. Butman will collaborate with staff to develop, produce and distribute clinical research publications to the scientific and professional community, and will attend and serve as presenter at national and international conventions and scientific meetings.

Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Butman received his medical degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in 1976. He completed his internship and junior residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, and his senior residency and cardiology fellowship at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Long Beach, Calif. Prior to joining the Medical Staff of VVMC in 2006, he had been the director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the University Medical Center in Tucson for 21 years.

Dr. Butman is involved in clinical trials aimed at bringing newer medications, procedures and technology to Northern Arizona. He believes the “involvement of patients and physicians in clinical research is a wonderful way to bring the latest developments and tools in medicine to our growing community.” Verde Valley Medical Center believes that high quality patient care for our community will be enhanced by continuing research and education.
