Anxiety and depression screening at VVMC

April 14, 2009

In honor of National Mental Health Month, Verde Valley Medical Center is hosting a complimentary anxiety and depression screening for adults 18 and older on Wednesday, May 6, Conference Room B, 1-4 p.m.

Most people feel anxious or depressed at times. Losing a job, going through a divorce, a death in the family, and other difficult situations can lead a person to feel sad, lonely, scared, nervous or anxious. These feelings are normal reactions to life’s stressors. However, some people experience these feelings daily or nearly every day for no apparent reason, making it difficult to carry on with normal, day-to-day functioning. These people may have an anxiety disorder, depression or both. The good news is, these disorders are treatable – separately and together.

The screening at VVMC includes a brief questionnaire which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Educational materials will be provided, including information about resources and support. A video about anxiety and depression will be shown, and giveaways and refreshments will be provided. Donald Curran, D.O., medical director of VVMC’s Behavioral Health Unit, and other staff members will be available to answer questions.
