Physician lectures at VVMC

Verde Valley Medical Center will be hosting four presentations by members of the VVMC and Northern Arizona Healthcare Medical Staffs in the VVMC Conference Rooms B and C during a free community event on Saturday, Feb. 21. Please call

At 9 a.m., Lipids and Lifestyle: Cholesterol – it’s much more than steak and cake! will be presented by Kenneth Bescak, M.D., diagnostic cardiologist. Dr. Bescak is a nationally known specialist in lipid management, widely considered the leading indicator of heart disease. He has earned a reputation for founding successful clinics for cardiac rehabilitation and heart failure. 

At 10:30 a.m., A Little Heart Surgery – when less is more in heart repair will be presented by John Schor, M.D., cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon. Having performed more than 6,000 cardiovascular procedures, Dr. Schor is among the first surgeons to use a hybrid operating room, allowing him to perform both minimally invasive interventional procedures and traditional surgery in the same room. He specializes in thoracic and vascular surgery, and minimally invasive cardiothoracic procedures.

At noon, Secrets of a Woman’s heart – clearly different than a man’s will be presented by Samuel Butman, M.D., interventional cardiologist. Dr. Butman is the medical director of Cardiovascular Clinical Research at the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Butman is involved in clinical trials aimed at bringing new medications, procedures and technology to Northern Arizona.
 
At 2 p.m. Revolutionizing Orthopedics: VVMC’s Joint Replacement Program will be presented by Jack Wylie, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, and Jon Cook, P.T., D. P.T., coordinator of the VVMC Joint Replacement Program (JRP) and Sports Medicine programs. For the past two years, both Dr. Wylie and Cook have been guest speakers at the Annual Meeting of the Western Orthopedic Association where they presented results of their research into the high success rate of VVMC’s JRP and why it has gained national recognition as a center of excellence.
