VVMC’s hospitalist program expands with new physician leadership

April 21, 2010

Ismaila Jibrin, M.D., recently was appointed the site program director of Verde Valley Medical Center’s (VVMC) hospital-based physician program. VVMC is among a growing number of hospitals throughout the U.S. that employ physicians, or hospitalists, who specialize in hospital medicine.

Joining VVMC’s medical staff in May 2008, Dr. Jibrin specializes in caring only for patients in the hospital setting. As the site program director, Dr. Jibrin will work closely with local physicians and VVMC medical staff and administration to ensure a continuum of care for patients during and after their hospital stay. Prior to working at VVMC, Dr. Jibrin served as the associate chief resident at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Md; and as the chief resident of internal medicine at Yale-Griffin Hospital in Derby, Conn.

Board-certified in internal medicine, hospitalists provide a continuum of care for patients by working closely with primary care physicians regarding a patient’s diagnosis, medical needs, medications and any follow-up plans prescribed at the time of discharge. Partnering with VVMC hospitalists enables primary care physicians to be more accessible when his or her patient requires outpatient care and office visits.

Currently, VVMC employs three full-time physicians who specialize in hospital medicine: Ismaila Jibrin, M.D., Seth Adjovu, M.D., and Fadi Makdsi, M.D. This group of expert physicians will expand in July 2010 with the additions of Patricia Green, M.D., and Johnny Mei, M.D.

Additionally, VVMC contracts with a group of physicians from St. Mary’s Healthcare - Michigan who specialize in helping hospitals set up hospitalists programs by providing comprehensive training and management support systems necessary to promote the highest quality of care for patients.
