Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) is one of 135 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s 2010 Get With The Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award. This is the third year in a row VVMC has received the gold award. In previous years, VVMC also has received silver and a bronze performance achievement awards.
The Gold Performance Achievement Award recognizes VVMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. The award indicates VVMC as an 85-percent compliance rate for 24 consecutive months signifies VVMC consistently followed treatment guidelines outlined by the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association . These guidelines outline the best practices for treating coronary artery disease patients through the use of medications like cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin and anticoagulants in the hospital.
“Our participation in the Get With The Guidelines program demonstrates our commitment to quality healthcare,” said J.J. Bleicher, M.D., president and CEO of Verde Valley Medical Center. “Receiving this award is a true testament of the dedication of our physicians and staff to providing excellent healthcare to our patients. At VVMC, we have the world-class cardiologists, physicians and staff needed to care for our community.”
Get With The Guidelines puts the unparalleled expertise of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide. Developed as a hospital-based quality-improvement program, Get With The Guidelines is designed to ensure hospitals consistently care for cardiac and stoke patients by following up-to-date guidelines and recommendations in the treatment of coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke. The goal of the program is to improve the quality of life and help reduce deaths and disabilities among patients with heart disease and stroke.
VVMC and other Get With The Guidelines Achievement Award winners will be honored at an event in Chicago in November, as well as in the Journal of American Cardiology.
