In less than two weeks, the fall 2011 Northern Arizona Hospice Volunteer training class will begin. Volunteers are valued members of the Northern Arizona Homecare and Hospice team. Their time, insights and experiences help to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
Classes will cover a wide variety of topics, ranging from the objective to the subjective. Specific topics include the physical aspects of the terminally ill patient, spiritual concerns, advance directives, the role of the hospice volunteer, and relaxation techniques which can be used for patients, caregivers and volunteers.
The 20-hour series consists of five sessions of four hours each. The sessions are Saturday, Sept. 17, 8 a.m.-noon; Sunday, Sept. 18, 1-5 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 24, 8 a.m.-noon; Sunday, Sept. 25, 1-5 p.m.; and Monday, Sept. 26, noon- 4 p.m. All classes are in VVMC’s Conference Room B, 269 S. Candy Lane.
The series is being offered free of charge, and volunteers still are needed. For more information about the Northern Arizona Hospice Volunteer program or to request an application, please call 928 639-6676.
