VVMC Foundation Brightens the Holidays

December 29, 2008

Thanks to the Verde Valley Medical Center, Christmas was brighter this year for nearly 100 families in the Healthy Families program. A gift of $3,000 from VVMC’s Foundation assisted the organization in purchasing a toy for each child of the families served by the VVMC program. Most recipient families attended the annual Christmas party organized by the Healthy Families staff.

"We are so grateful the Foundation was able to help this year," said Robin Matteo, program director. "Without this support we would not have been able to provide these gifts for the children. For some of the families we serve, this might be the only gift they received for Christmas."

Other participating donors included the Don Nelms Insurance Agency, longtime supporters of Healthy Families; Verde Valley Toy Run, who donated bikes and helmets; Randall’s Restaurant, who donated the food for the event; and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, who made a special visit.

Healthy Families is an early intervention, home-based program designed to assure healthy growth and development for at-risk infants and toddlers. Staff members provide parenting information and education, developmental screening, professional counseling referrals, play groups, resources and referrals.
