VVMC Cancer Center offers Look Good...Feel Better Workshop

January 19, 2009

The Cancer Center at the Sedona Campus of the Verde Valley Medical Center is hosting a Look Good…Feel Better (LGFB) workshop on Monday, Feb. 2, from 2-4 p.m. Preregistration is required.

LGFB offers a free program that helps improve the self-image, appearance, and quality of life for women undergoing cancer treatment by teaching beauty techniques to help them cope with the appearance-related consequences of treatment. This hands-on workshop includes a 12-step skin care/make-up application lesson, demonstration of options for dealing with hair loss, and nail care techniques.

The program is a collaboration of the American Cancer Society, Personal Care Products Council Foundation and the National Cosmetology Foundation. It is facilitated by LGFB-trained cosmetologists and sponsored by the Cancer Center Sedona Campus. Participants will receive a free make-up kit valued at more than $300, make-over tips and personal attention from professionals trained to meet the skin care needs of women undergoing cancer treatment. Each kit is geared toward a particular skin tone, and includes helpful instruction booklets for use at home. Professional advice also is provided on wigs, scarves and accessories.

The program is open to women currently undergoing any type of cancer treatment or who have previously attended the program. Although there is no charge for the class, preregistration is required due to limited seating. The workshop will be held in the conference room at the VVMC Sedona Campus, 3700 W. State Route 89A. To register, or for more information, please call Cherie Terry at 254-9636, or Virginia Viol at 204-4175.
