In an effort to educate the community on the treatment and prevention of colorectal cancer, the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare are sponsoring a free, informative talk from 1 – 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 9 with Medical Oncologist Pamela MacKenzie, M.D. The talk will be held at the Jerona Café, 677 E. Mingus Ave., Cottonwood. Seating is limited; RSVPs are required by calling 928 773-2008.
Dr. MacKenzie is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine, and is a member of Arizona Oncology. Dr. MacKenzie is the newest physician to join the medical oncology staff at the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare (CCNAH).
Additionally, during the month of March – National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month – CCNAH will be offering low-cost, take-home colorectal cancer screening kits to promote the need for early detection and diagnosis of this very treatable disease. The screening kit is a simple take-home kit that checks for blood in the stool. The screening is recommended for both men and women over the age of 50, those who have a family history of the disease or who may have colorectal polyps, and individuals who have chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
Screening kits can be picked up from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Cancer Center in Sedona, 3700 W. State Route 89A; and at the Verde Valley Medical Center’s Outpatient Testing (use the main entrance), 269 S. Candy Lane. The screening kit costs just $15 to cover the laboratory testing, results will be mailed back to each individual participating. The Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare are located in Sedona and Flagstaff and are devoted to the comprehensive treatment and early diagnosis of cancer through advanced technology and individualized care.
