Speech, Language and Swallowing Program
The Speech, Language and Swallowing Program at EntireCare helps patients develop, or recover, reliable communication and swallowing skills so individuals can fulfill their educational, vocational and social roles.
Following a comprehensive evaluation, speech-language pathologists develop a plan of care, tailored to each individual patient's needs.
Speech-language pathologists teach people of all ages how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their oral or written language skills to communicate more effectively. They also teach individuals how to strengthen muscles or use compensatory strategies to swallow without choking or inhaling food or liquid.
For those with little or no speech capability, speech-language pathologists may select augmentative or alternative communication methods, including automated devices and sign language and teach their use.
Conditions treated include, but are not limited to:
- Cerebral palsy
- Developmental speech/language delays
- Specific language impairment
- Craniofacial abnormalities
- Articulations impairment/tongue thrust
- Swallowing disorders
- Laryngeal and oral cancer rehabilitation
