Joint replacement surgery is one of the most commonly performed orthopedic surgeries in the world today.

Due to the high volume of local residents requiring this procedure, Verde Valley Medical Center launched its Joint Replacement Program in 2002. Since then, it has gained state and national recognition for its high success rate, including shorter hospital stays, increased rates of recovery and improved range of motion.

The program focuses on pre-operative education, state of the art surgical techniques, skilled nursing care, focused pain management strategies and advanced physical therapy. Physical therapists with VVMC’s EntireCare Sports Medicine and Rehab focus on restoring independence and a return to normal activities as soon as possible.

In May, VVMC hosted its first Ortho Fair, with lectures on joint replacement as well as shoulder programs, arthritis and osteoporosis. For those who may have missed the Ortho Fair, a joint replacement seminar will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26 at the Sedona Public Library on 3250 White Bear Road, West Sedona.

The seminar will be presented by board certified orthopedic surgeons Geoffrey Cook, M.D. and Diana Ennes, M.D. Also presenting will be Paul Prefontaine, P.T., the director of EntireCare Sports Medicine and Rehab. The seminar will include a discussion of symptoms, patient expectations after surgery, a question and answer period and light refreshments.

For more information, or to register for the seminar, please call VVMC Customer Relations at 639-6551. Walk-ins also are welcome.
