  • Breastfeeding center
  • Perinatal social worker
  • Patient Care channel
  • Patient Education channel
  • Parenting Arizona information in English and Spanish

VVMC is a Level 1 Perinatal Care Center, meaning the facilities are equipped to care for women with normal and low-risk pregnancies. We offer a variety of comprehensive services to mother and child, including:

Private rooms
With 10 private rooms, new moms can enjoy home-like amenities, rockers and great views.

Hearing evaluations
All infants are screened for hearing impairment. If a screen identifies a potential for hearing loss, the parent(s)/guardian(s) are notified and referred to the Arizona Early Intervention Program and to an audiologist for comprehensive testing.

Birth Recorder
Vital Records collects all information and signatures necessary to complete and file birth certificates for infants born at VVMC. A paternity acknowledgement packet is provided and completed, if requested. A footprint card is completed and given to the parent(s).

Caring and compassionate physicians and staff
Many of our nurses are RNCs, meaning not only are they registered nurses, they also are nationally certified in their specialty of obstetrics. We have certified lactation consultants on staff, as well as certified childbirth educators. All of Medical Staff members are required to attend continuing education classes to stay up to date on current information and techniques.

Full-time perinatal social worker
The social worker provides support and guidance to pregnant families, which includes evaluation, education, counseling and referrals in collaboration with hospital and community services.

Childbirth education classes
VVMC offers a childbirth education program taught by registered nurses that includes a five-week evening class addressing anatomy and physiology, labor support, pain management, newborn care and breastfeeding.

Patient Care channel
The C.A.R.E. Channel offers an alternative to commercial television, noise and other often- stressful distractions. Combining ambient nature images and music, the programming provides uninterrupted music as an environmental tool to enhance and promote healing. The photographic images are produced slowly to be effective for patients, and to avoid distraction or confusion for those on high levels of medication. The soothing instrumental music is paced for time of day and nights, and the programming provides a special midnight star field for overnight broadcast.

Patient Education channel
The Patient Channel is an educational television station offering a variety of programming to patients, their families, caregivers and friends. The programs feature patient stories and physician explanations in easy-to-understand language, and replay frequently to provide multiple opportunities for viewing. A wide selection of topics is presented including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, cancer, asthma, smoking cessation, health/wellness, and other healthcare topics. In the Perinatal Services Unit, topics such as newborn care, baby basics and parenting are offered in both English and Spanish.
