Volunteer at VVMCThere are
many reasons why people begin volunteer life at VVMC. Many of our volunteers
have retired from their first careers. They found they had time to spare and
wanted to contribute something to their community, but the reason they
stayed at VVMC was because of what they found here: friends, camaraderie,
and the knowledge that they are appreciated by both patients and staff. Each
volunteer will have a different story to tell, but the result is always the
same. Volunteering fills a special need in your heart and soul.
Volunteers at VVMC perform essential tasks of:
Providing hospitality and information
Driving transport carts - both within the facility and outside
Managing the VVMC Gift Shop
Adding extra “hands” to many VVMC departments
Three very special programs also are guided by the Volunteer Services
department.
Chaplains
Many Chaplains in the Verde Valley
have volunteered to make visits, at patients’ and families’ requests. The
comfort of a spiritual guide during times of healthcare crisis has helped
many.
Dog Therapy Program
Specially tested and credentialed canine volunteers- and their owners - are
allowed to visit patients who give permission.
Home Alone Zoo
The Home Alone Zoo pet sitting service was put into place to assist hospital
patients with pet care while they are hospitalized. The service is available
24-hours-a-day and is free of charge for up to two weeks. A list of
volunteers willing to care for pets is maintained in the VVMC Volunteer
Services department. If no volunteer is available, Volunteer Services will
make special arrangements for the pet to be cared for by the Humane Society
of Yavapai County or by local kennels who have offered to house and care for
pets free of charge for hospital patients.
A simple telephone call starts the process which includes signing a special
form and providing basic information about your pet(s) and services needed
while you are hospitalized.
To find out more about this service, ask your hospital caregiver or call
Volunteer Services at 639-6550.
With many hospital departments participating in the volunteer program,
almost any person's expectations of volunteering can be met.
